What Are Dentures?
Dentures are prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth. With today's advanced technology, you'll enjoy comfortable and incredibly natural-looking restorations.
What Are the Types of Dentures?
Complete dentures work to restore your smile if you are missing all of your teeth, while partial dentures work when some of your natural teeth remain.
- Complete Conventional Dentures: Before preparing your dentures, we may need to extract any remaining teeth. The shape of your jaw will change during the healing process, which will take a few months. With try-ins of the prostheses, it may take up to a couple of months to prepare your conventional dentures. We recommend a reline of the dentures when the healing is complete (usually after 6 months) to ensure the best fit and comfort.
- Complete Immediate Dentures: These restorations are prepared in advance and positioned in your mouth the same day we remove any remaining teeth. Immediate dentures usually require relining and more adjustments as compared to conventional dentures to accommodate the changes that take place in your jawbone during healing. Though they are a great option to consider so that you do not have to be without your own teeth during fabrication of the dentures, many times these dentures will serve as temporary, and you’d want to get a set of conventional dentures after healing for 6 months.
- Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are removable alternatives to fixed dental bridges. They consist of replacement teeth attached to metal frameworks that connect to remaining natural teeth.
- Implant-Supported Dentures: Implant-supported dentures can be complete or partial. They are held in place by several dental implants, unlike conventional dentures that sit on the gums. Implant restorations provide stability and support to your dentures, comparable to your natural teeth. Implant-supported dentures offer multiple benefits. They are the only restorations that mimic the function of natural tooth roots and preserve the bone. They are comfortable to wear and look and feel incredibly natural. Implant-supported dentures will allow you to speak with clarity and to enjoy your favorite foods. With proper care, your restorations can last a lifetime!
